3rd Place at Oregon Trail Rally

This past weekend, the Rally America championship series visited the state of Oregon. It’s the third and only west coast event of the series with three days of racing instead of the normal two. Racing started on Friday night under the lights at Portland International Speedway. The team experienced issues from the start of the event and ended that night down in 5th place in their class.

Saturday and Sunday’s race stages had the team relocating near the trails of Mount Hood. The extremely dry conditions proved to also challenge the drivers trying to make up time while navigating at high speeds through the dust. Breezy winds were a welcome sight helping to clear the trails partially during racing.

Saturday’s push had the team up as far as 2nd in their class setting up for one final push on Sunday for the top spot. Sunday’s stages were larger, wider and longer which would favor the higher horsepower Scion xD versus the current first place competitor.

Unfortunately, electrical issues plagued Sunday’s surge, forcing fans and cooling to work inefficiently eventually having the engine to overheat blowing a head gasket.

But all was not lost. Even though the team finished the event at a snails pace, the time cushion built on Saturday was just enough to still secure the team a 3rd place podium finish. The 3rd place finish will add precious points needed for the 2WD Championship race.

Its just proves that even though our previous weeks testing up in Seattle which went flawless still left somethings overlooked and you can never be too prepared.

- Pikes Peak Hill Climb: June 30 in Colorado Springs, CO

- New England Forest Rally: July 26-27 in Newry, ME

- Ojibwe Forest Rally: Aug 23-24 in Detroit Lakes, MN

- Lake Superior Performance Rally: Oct 18-19 in Houghton, MI
